ALU - Alcatel-Lucent reported a larger-than-expected quarterly loss on merger costs, pricing pressures, and a large writedown.

GM - General Motors reported better-than-expected second quarter earnings as its embattled U.S. auto unit returned to the black after more than two years of losses.

JNJ - Johnson & Johnson plans to cut 3 to 4 percent of its global work force of about 120,500.

SUNW - Sun Microsystems reported a fiscal fourth-quarter profit that beat Wall Street's expectations as the company benefited from lower expenses and increased adoption of its open-source operating system.
